WHAT'S UP @ THE HOUSE.....WATCH THIS SPACE

No Time To Waste! – An Appeal to “500 BleK MambaZ”!

After two very hard, and yet joyful years in “the hood” the house is on the mooove.

Many of you have been wondering what has happened and why???? And we hugely appreciate and are inspired by your concern and your disappointment at the closure.

We have not closed down!!!! but have merely ,for reasons beyond our control, had to close our doors in Brixton.

We plan to take the house of NsAkO to greater heights…..a very exciting prospect.

Many of you will recall the work and love that went into creating the Brixton space. We will always have fond memories of sharing our beautiful space with you the “Grooving Masses” of our country, and the world.

In the immediate sense, we have identified an amazing building in the Centre of JoziTown! In fact, for the last seven years, or so, we have been trying to find a space such as this. With the headquarters of various unions in the vicinity, and a middle-income housing project also in the area, we could not have found a better location.

To help found a truly African Cultural Centre in the Centre of JoziTown, we are appealing to you the Grooving Masses. We are appealing to at least Five Hundred individuals – the “BleK MambaZ” to each/collectively invest in the making of this cultural space. For it to succeed, this project will be run on proven business principles. To us, this is also an “Emotional Investment”. It is about who we are, and who we could be. Now, and in the future… Besides that, given the development that is rapidly happening in the area, the building can only appreciate in value.

In closing, we would like to remind all and sundry that it is indeed a fact of human life that one Sunday after another, Christians commune in Church; on Fridays those of Jewish faith spend time with family to sharing food and stories at Shabat; It is also on Fridays that the Muslims gather for prayer and meditation at Mosque… In a quest for spirituality, different people do different things, but the desired end-result is the same: To be at one with The Creator, with one’s own soul, and those around you. That is what we want of our centre…

Towards an African Cultural Centre… A Centre of Friendship in the Centre of Jozi!

Bigger and Bigger!

House of Nsako had the biggest weekend of its young existence with two packed-out houses for two of the hottest gigs to hit our four walls for far. First, on FRIDAY JUNE 20, Brixton's own MARCUS WYATT, headlined a Khru aka LANGUAGE 12, a labour of love, dedication, and extreme commitment featuring some of the finest musos in SA, cats like LOUIS MHLANGA, CARLO MOMBELLI, MELISSA VAN DER SPUY... Not a seat nor a dry eye nor a silent foot in da house... Then on to SATURDAY JUNE 21 when the MAGAMBA! team set out to MAKE SOME NOISE! to raise awareness about the crisis in Zimbabwe and to help make sure that the Presidential Run-Off in Zimbabwe on 27th June is free and fair. Anti-apartheid veteran POPS MOHAMED led the pack, running through act after act including Zim's own OUTSPOKEN, COMRADE FATSO AND CHABVONDOKA, as well as GOBODORIL, FLO, HERBIE DANGEROUS, BIANCA WILLIAMS, LESEGO RAMPOLOKENG, NAPO MASHEANE, AVIWE DAMANE, all the way up to the KWANI EXPERIENCE and DJ KENZHERO polishing off the endless night...sharing the stage with the industrious KWANI EXPERIENCE gracing the space before the shack for the second time in two weeks... So what's next? Where will we put all the people?

Cuba film screening - Mar 21 08

A great final evening of the Three Continents Mini Film Festival!! Amazing films and a great conversation had by all in attendance. A group of about 15 people at the beginning of the night bloomed to almost 50 by the time the films ended, and Jihan El-Tahri (the filmmaker) and Rehad Desai (the festival-runner) oversaw a great discussion amongst those assembled. Looking forward to more soon!!
